The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

DAY 1 OF 4

The Place of Prayers in A Christian School

I count it a great honour to be called into the Ministry of Christian Education. It is a worthy call as children are dear to the heart of our Lord Jesus who says that children should be brought to him and not be hindered from coming to him (Mark 10:13-16). A Christian school is in God’s plan to see His kingdom established here on earth. Through the Christian school, children imbibe a Biblical worldview. The Christian school movement is a means of raising ambassadors and an army for God’s kingdom. Whatever is in God’s kingdom agenda is subject to attack by the devil who sets up his own kingdom to oppose and fight the kingdom of God. Therefore, God’s kingdom assignments must be done in line with His kingdom principles. One major principle of the kingdom is to pray that the kingdom of God will come, and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). It is important for us to pray because there are oppositions to the kingdom of God. Prayers pull down the agenda of the evil one on various issues and reinstate God’s counsel.

Praying should be entrenched in the ministry of Christian schooling, not as a religious activity but as a connection to produce the expected kingdom outcomes; students who know and love the Lord and will stand for Him wherever they go in life. If we are to do the will of the one who sent us to run a Christian school, we must stay connected with God in the place of prayer. Today, let’s focus on prayer as an expression of our dependence on God. Over the next three days, we will briefly examine what to pray.

PRAYER IS AN EXPRESSION OF OUR DEPENDENCE ON GOD

One major reason why we should pray is to show that we are totally dependent on God for the ministry of Christian Schooling. Outside of Him, we can do nothing. We also cannot receive anything except it is given to us by God (John 3:27). God wants to show us how to do things, and help us in teaching and the students in learning. He wants to give us strength, provision, protection, and all that we need for running our schools. These are reasons we should pray. There are times we get into crossroads or roadblocks in the journey of running schools. Let us take the admonition of Paul in Philippians 4:6. Philippians 4:6 (KJV) says, “Be careful for nothing; but IN EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

About this Plan

The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

In this 4-day devotional, Adun Akinyemiju, Director of the Association of Christian Schools International (Africa), shares the importance of prayer in Christian education. Rooted in Mark 10:13-16, the plan emphasizes Christian schools as vital to God’s kingdom agenda. Through prayer, we align with God’s will, opposing darkness and nurturing students who know and love the Lord. Join us as we seek God's guidance and strength to fulfill His mission through Christian education.
