A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday Devotionals

DAY 5 OF 75

John was misunderstood, worshiped, reviled, adored, and feared. He was followed and abandoned, yet whoever he was with and whatever he did, he was unwavering in his pointing to the Lord.

Have you had times when you have felt frustrated or abandoned and wanted to give up the call to faith? What drew you back in? We know that John was the first (and youngest) to be filled with prophetic recognition of his cousin Jesus as Christ the Messiah. John jumped when he was still a baby in the womb!

And when John met Jesus coming out of the wilderness, he recognised his messiah again. When John’s head was severed from his body and served on a platter at a feast (Mark 6:27-28), Jesus recognised John as having given his whole life in service of the story of God.

May we find God and the recognition of the Christ who sees us in the wilderness.

Prayer: God, what are you asking of me in this prayer journey?

Action: Spend some time today finding wilderness.
