Fuel the Fire

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2 - Ps Brayden & Jess Preston | Citipointe Church West

WHY THE WORD? The importance of reading the Bible

If we think about all of the things on social media and television that end up being false or misinformation, we can see that there is ‘fake news’ everywhere we look. For people who become new followers of Jesus, it can be extremely challenging trying to discern truth from lies.

Jesus says in the gospel of John that there is an enemy who wants to steal, kill and destroy; one of the ways that the enemy does this is through lies and deception, going against the way that God teaches us to live. As we grow in our relationship with God, we need to be able to discern truth from lies; but the problem is, you can’t tell if something is a lie if you don’t know the truth.

John 14:6 says that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

Thousands of years ago it was a fact that the world was flat, now it is a fact the world is round. Facts will change, beliefs will vary, but the truth, the written word of God is forever, because God is the same yesterday, today and forever. There is one truth and it's found in the Word of God.

The Bible is where we find out who our creator is; the Bible is where we find out why we were created; the Bible is where we find out that we’re saved and set free; the Bible is where we find truth - the absolute, unchanging, eternal truth.
