Living Water

“I lack nothing with you, you will provide. I lack nothing with you, only you satisfy."

If you’re anything like me, you keep a mental checklist of the ways you're lacking. In my head, I’m not patient enough, I’m not brave enough, or I’m not bold enough. But what would my life look like if we truly believed we lacked nothing? It doesn’t take much work to realize our lacking. The real work is in rooting ourselves firmly in the truth that God will provide for us in our lacking. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians that not only is God’s power put on display in our weakness, it is made perfect. Simply put: in our lacking, He stands in the gap. He takes whatever we bring Him and makes it better and more impactful than we ever could.

When we give our lives to Jesus, we receive His Spirit too. He gives us access to all we need inside our very being. In the scriptures, God’s Spirit is referred to as “living water”. There’s a verse in John that says, “Whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” It’s not just a little bit of water, it’s a river. It moves forward with urgency, forging a new path, doing everything it can to bring life - not just to us, but THROUGH us. We have to start holding up the lies we tell ourselves to God’s truth. It’s then that we might finally be able to say with confidence, "God, I lack nothing because of You.”

CALL TO ACTION

What are the I’m not ____ or I can’t ____ statements that you’ve been speaking over yourself recently? Identify them and bring them to Jesus. Ask Him to replace them with His truth. Surrender the piece of you that has come to believe that you lack what God has already put inside of you. You are a source of life and good things because of Jesus’ sacrifice.

PRAYER

God, thank You for always providing for me. Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit that springs up life in my soul. I cannot live without it. I pray that You would continue to remind me that I have all that I need to be who You’ve called me to be. I pray that You would tear down every excuse I’ve built up and every lie that I’ve come to believe that speaks against the truth that I lack nothing with You. Jesus, please help me to bring Your life, Your living water, to those around me that desperately need it. Amen. –Brenna Suarez
