Everything at Your Feet

Anyone reading this a control freak? No? Yeah, me neither…

Like most people, I struggle with control. I have found myself time and time again, maybe even unconsciously, trying to maintain the driver's seat of my own life and then wondering why I am left empty.

Looking back at my own life, praying and surrendering the big things to God was always easier because I was surrendering things that were out of my control anyway. Things like praying for what college I would go to or that I would get the job I applied for. I have found it harder to give God full control of the things I can actually maintain control over. Things like: my finances, my family, my attitude, my bitterness, my joy. God doesn’t want part of you. He wants all of you.

Sometimes we think giving our lives to Jesus was the only surrender required, but in our walk with The Lord, we will always be called to invite Him to have His way in each season and each situation. He doesn't just want the big stuff; He wants the everyday. He wants to be in lockstep with you. It's easy for us to see Him in the unexplainable miracles, but takes more intentionality to see that He is in the everyday details.

Our worship as Christ followers is to surrender our whole lives, not just the big things, but all things, to Jesus as our act of obedience. EVERYTHING AT HIS FEET – my everyday, ordinary everything. My sleeping, eating, going to work, walking around life.

CALL TO ACTION

Take inventory of the things in your life. What are you trusting God with? What are you white knuckling and refusing to give God control of? Ask God to reveal the areas in your life that need to be surrendered to Him.

PRAYER

Jesus, I open my hands. I relinquish control. I give You everything. My dreams, my future, my family, my heart and my life because I know I can trust You. I love You, amen. –Mariah Goss
