Jesus often spoke in imagery or parables to help His followers understand the lesson He was teaching. With these words in Luke 12, Jesus is doing just that. Those He was speaking to would’ve understood easily the price of five sparrows. They would’ve known that the sparrows were valued cheaply and almost worthless in the world’s eyes. So, when Jesus says that God knows every single one of them, people would’ve been shocked. Because if God cares that much about something they saw with so little value, how much more does God care about them?
Though we don’t consider sparrows in the same way today (or at all, really!), the lesson remains the same for us. If God cares so much about every bird in the sky, every flower in the field, every star in the sky, and every grain of sand on the beach, how much more does God care about us? When we’re struggling to trust that God will provide for our needs or take care of us, we can look back to Jesus’ words here as a reminder of our value.
We can put our trust in God to cover and care for us because of how much God values us.

About this Plan
Few things in life are more important than breathing. It’s what keeps us going and living. This isn’t a devotional on the science of breathing. Instead, we’re talking about what it looks like to create breathing room in parts of our everyday lives. From faith to finances to friendship to so much more, we’re diving into the benefits of slowing down, pausing, and giving these areas of our lives room to breathe.
