Breathe

DAY 20 OF 20

Trusting God isn’t always easy. It can be one of the most difficult parts of the Christian life. As humans, we crave security and stability. We want to know what’s going to happen, how it’s going to impact our lives, and what comes next. Even the most easy-going and spontaneous among us look for answers about what will come our way in this life. And because we don’t always know the answers or can’t find a way forward, we struggle to trust that God can and will take care of us. We struggle to believe that good will come if we let it go out of our own hands.

That’s why Paul’s words here to the Romans are so important. They remind us that we’re not in control. We never have been! Rather, it’s God who takes care of us, directs our steps, and works out what’s good for us in this life. When we’re not sure what will happen, or we’re struggling to release control over the outcomes in our lives, we can look back to this verse to remind us that God is always working for our good and His purpose.

Talk with a spouse, a close friend, or your small group leader this week about what this verse means to you. Ask for their encouragement to trust that God will work out what’s good for you in all parts of your life.

About this Plan

Breathe

Few things in life are more important than breathing. It’s what keeps us going and living. This isn’t a devotional on the science of breathing. Instead, we’re talking about what it looks like to create breathing room in parts of our everyday lives. From faith to finances to friendship to so much more, we’re diving into the benefits of slowing down, pausing, and giving these areas of our lives room to breathe.
