The King of Israel

DAY 7 OF 7

Day 7 – The Lion of Judah

Everyone has an idea of who Jesus is. But do we know Him as He is, or as we would prefer to see Him?

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. No one is as gentle and loving as He is. He even wants to live in us with His Spirit. This is how we share in His faith. We drink the living water, walk in His light and eat the bread of heaven.

But Jesus is also a King. Even as King of the world, He remains the King of Israel. He is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Only He is able to complete all things in the end times. And when He comes, He will come with power and majesty, so that is how we should expect Him.

We read in Matthew's gospel that at His coming He will send forth His angels to gather the elect of God. Those are the children of Israel! We must not separate Jesus from Israel. He is not just dealing with the Church. Perhaps that is a correction to our faith. In any case, an enrichment. Jesus is bigger!

Someone once told the following story:

At the coming of Jesus, a rabbi and a pastor reverently ask Him to put an end to something they have disagreed on for centuries. 'Is this the first or the second time You have come here?' To this Jesus replies, "My children, if only you knew how many times I have been here." The history of the Messiah does not begin in the New Testament. He was here much earlier, admittedly in a different form, but in concealment He was already here as the King of Israel, and that is what He has always remained.
