The Healing Power of God
Jesus wants you to bring your hurt to him. He said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The psalmist reminds us that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18). Place your hope in the Healer, not in power.
I have experienced God healing me physically and emotionally, but the most extraordinary healing I have received was healing for my sin-sick soul. Because of Adam’s sin, I was born in sin and shaped in iniquity. There was nothing I could do to live right. Even the good I did wasn’t good enough. One day, however, I recognized that I was a sinner, cried out to God, repented, and accepted the finished work Jesus did through his death and resurrection. That was how God healed my soul.
You may be feeling physically or emotionally sick. Or you may feel the greatest sickness—a sin-sick soul. Friend, Jesus came for you, just like he came for me. He knew that “healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do” (Mark 2:17). Your healing, like mine, comes through Jesus, not the pursuit of personal power or influence. He is the only one who can deliver on the healing he promises and the only one who can make you whole.
In the synagogue, Jesus read Isaiah’s prophecy about himself from hundreds of years before,
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come. (Luke 4:18-19)
Only Jesus could bring the Good News, only he could bring healing, only he has the power to save our sin-sick soul…because only Jesus could afford the cost.
Place your faith in him.
Heal my heart, God. I want to be free from all this pain. Heal my mind and heal my soul. Help me steward well the power you have given to me.
