Sovereignty of God

God is sovereign, and that thought alone brings me so much peace. The meaning of sovereign is supreme power. I love that it says here in Psalm 47 “the most High, a great King over the whole earth.” You might remember singing this song in Kids Church growing up -

“He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands.”

God is sovereign, but not in control. Wild thought I know. But hear me out.

Everything that happens is not the will of God. The power of life and death is in your tongue (Prov 18:21). God has given us free will and He’s also given us dominion in the name of Jesus to speak life and truth over our circumstances. We also have free will to make any choice we want to, and the choices we make don’t always lead to life. There are consequences to all our choices and actions. God absolutely loves us and wants to lead us in the way of life, however, He will never force us. We might be walking in ignorance and it has nothing to do with God.

God ordains life not death. He is the author and giver of life not death. God receives your lost loved ones, He doesn’t ordain their death. God asks us to raise the dead, why would He be taking people out?

We’re accountable. We’ve got a sword, we’ve got a shield, We’ve got armour. Let’s fight the good fight of faith. When God's sovereign and everything that happens is His choice and you believe that, it takes the fight out of a Christian, it’s a lie that the enemy uses to disarm you.

Jesus says don’t fear, and Jesus says don’t worry and the first two reactions of the average Christian in Christ, is to fear and worry and then cry out to God. It proves we are walking in a very low level of understanding of authority, power and God’s choice. So we reduce the gospel to a method and a principle that we apply to get help instead of a relationship that we already have through the Cross.

God’s heart is to partner with you everyday to bring about His great commission. He has given us everything that we need in order to thrive in life and destroy every work of the enemy. The key is knowing Him and understanding who you are as His child. When we gain true revelation of our identity, we begin to gain understanding of how we walk in the authority He’s given to us. We also begin to understand the heart of our Father towards us and humanity.

Prayer

Jesus, we praise You, adore You, honour You and give You all the glory. We love You so much. You are so worthy of all praise. Thank You for every soul reading this right now, I pray for such an awakening in their hearts, I release fresh fire and great peace over them right now in Jesus’ name. We thank You God that You are a sovereign God, and that You delight in living every day with us. Lead us Holy Spirit in the way that we should go, direct our steps, take us by the hand. We love You and honour You, in Jesus’ name.
