Expose the Secret Plots of the Enemy: 7 Days of Strategic Prayer نموونە
Day 5: Trust God and His Sovereignty
In chapter six, we see the providence of God at play.
That night the king had trouble sleeping, so he ordered an attendant to bring the book of the history of his reign so it could be read to him. In those records he discovered an account of how Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the door to the king’s private quarters. They had plotted to assassinate King Xerxes.
“What reward or recognition did we ever give Mordecai for this?” the king asked. (Esther 6:1–3 NLT).
At this point, Mordecai’s destiny was sealed; but for God, that wasn’t enough. Haman was humiliated and had to honor and celebrate Mordecai throughout the city square. What’s even worse, Haman’s wise advisors and his wife told him, “Since Mordecai—this man who has humiliated you—is of Jewish birth, you will never succeed in your plans against him. It will be fatal to continue opposing him” (Esther 6:13b NLT). These were the very people who had helped Haman create this evil plan against the Jews.
So, at this point, Mordecai was celebrated and had the favor of the king. Haman’s once-inflated ego had been bruised, but God was still not done. He still desired to rescue His people from the king’s decree, and He gave Esther favor with King Xerxes. She was able to expose Haman’s wickedness.
Reflect:
Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes “providence” as
a: divine guidance or care
b: God conceived as the power sustaining and guiding human destiny
God’s providence is always at work guiding our destiny because our lives were created to fulfill His desired plan. This doesn’t mean that we are not required to pray and align with His will. He gave humans dominion over the earth, and as such, sometimes we can mess things up with our disobedience and rebellion. We should always do what is in our power—pray, obey, and trust—confident that God will do what is in His power, including intervene to rescue us. Can you recall a time when God’s providence came into play when you were in a tough situation?
Pray:
Sovereign Father, thank you for never leaving us nor forsaking us. You are perfect in all of your ways; and your timing is impeccable. Help me to trust in you and your plans for your people. Holy Spirit, empower your prayer warriors with a spirit of intercession that will give us stamina to pray through until we see the sovereign hand of God bring the victory we are awaiting. I rebuke the evil, wicked plots of the enemy, and I ask you to shine your light on them so all that is hidden will be exposed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
