Overcoming the Father Wound: The Path to Victory

DAY 2 OF 9

DAY 2: Where’s Dad?

Psalm 27:10 NIV - Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

The healing of our “Father Wounds” is absolutely necessary to us, our wives, and most definitely, to our children. Turns out, it is also vital to society as a whole.

Drugs, gangs, domestic violence and more are steadily rising – and fatherlessness plays a critical role in all of this. US Census Bureau statistics say 25% of children (and much more in some communities) grow up without a father in the home. See Malachi 4:6!

As an example, “KP” shares this:

“My dad was an absentee father and a workaholic. …I invited him to a baseball game at the Police Athletic League. It was a father-son game and my dad was too busy to show up, as he was often working. We would have visitation on the weekends and he would sometimes be too busy for that.It was a tug of war between mom and dad and us kids felt like pawns.”

KP wound up getting in trouble with the Law later in life. His story is all too typical.

There are many examples among the famous as well:

Former NFL player Michael Oher was rescued from having no adult care or guidance at all in his childhood by a caring family – his story was powerfully portrayed in the movie, “The Blind Side”.

Is there a Bible answer for those who have been abandoned or neglected? Absolutely! Consider:

-Psalm 68:5, God is a “father to the fatherless”.

-Deuteronomy 10:18 - “He defends the cause of the fatherless”.

-In Deuteronomy 27:19 and many other verses, He commanded that everyone in Israel care for those without a Dad.

Do you feel abandoned, neglected?

Prayer:

“Father – I cry out to you now! You know my pain; I surrender it all to you! Please give me the grace to forgive those who have abandoned and hurt me. Amen”.
