Overcoming the Father Wound: The Path to Victoryنموونە
DAY 5: Mommie (not so) Dearest
Scripture –Proverbs 31:25 She [verse 10 - the lady of the house] is clothed with strength and dignity… 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household…28 Her children arise and call her blessed
Most men have a special attachment to their mothers. We typically associate them with good things, like nurturing, forgiveness and understanding. I was blessed to have a Mom like that. But sometimes Moms were (or are) broken human beings, just like Dad. Reasons vary. Women sometimes suffer from post-partum depression; they may have been abused or neglected as children. They might have become addicted to drugs and alcohol, etc.
Sometimes the famous have experienced damage at the hands of their mothers. They may have learned along the way to cover up their pain with humor. Several famed movie comics have publicly revealed very difficult details from their childhoods, including at times, psychological abuse or neglect from a mother.
Mothers at times conceive children when they are very young and immature, and have no idea as to how to properly raise a child. Their Mom was possibly not nurturing. They may additionally suffer abandonment by the father of the baby, and are left to cope with parenthood without support. The results are typically disastrous – but not always. Regardless of how your Mom treated you, through gaining understanding, and choosing forgiveness, you too can rise up and overcome!
Prayer:
“Lord, I call on you today for wisdom and empowerment to forgive my Mom, and I release her from any emotional debts to me. Her failures never defined my worth. I thank you for Your unconditional love. Amen.”
