The Morning Hunt – Day Three – Hearing God’s Voice
The lion has the ability to hear sounds from a mile away in all directions, but the lion needs to stand still and focus on the direction he needs to go. There are probably many sounds that are being made within a one-mile radius, so how does the lion know which way to go? One of the ways the lion does this is by having a set of ears that rotate in different directions to be able to tell from which direction the sound of their prey is coming or even the sound of danger.
He that has ears to hear needs to be still and differentiate the many voices out there. What is Jesus saying to us when using the phrase, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear?” He is telling us that some things require special attention or focus with an intention to take action based on what was heard. A more literal translation would be, “He who has ears, let him be hearing.” Do you see the present progressive tense of this verb? A lion is listening for its prey and any other danger that may be nearby. If you watch videos of lions, you will notice that even the sleeping lions constantly move their ears.
What does God’s Voice sound like? It sounds like His word, and sometimes it sounds like our own voice remembering His Word. Get in the Word and learn the sound of God's Voice so that you will know the difference between opportunity and danger.
Matthew 11:15 ESV - He who has ears to hear,[a] let him hear.
Matthew 11:15 MSG - Are you listening to me? Really listening?
Psalm 19:8-11 NLT - 8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.
Psalm 19:11-14 MSG - here’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure. Otherwise, how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work; Then I can start this day sun-washed, scrubbed clean of the grime of sin. These are the words in my mouth; these are what I chew on and pray. Accept them when I place them on the morning altar, O God, my Altar-Rock, God, Priest-of-My-Altar.
