Christ the Lord
Before Jesus ascended into the Heavens, He had prepared the disciples to expect His return at the end of days. Though He had been revealed in His time as the Saviour that was to suffer on behalf of a world marred by sin and death, upon His return, He will be heralded as the Name above all names and will reign over all of creation in power and glory.
This is the underlying hope that breathed its life into the greetings of the early church: Maranatha, which roughly means, “Come Lord Jesus”. In our modern era, we live in expectation of the fulfilment of the appointed time when Christ will return to the earth to save us.
In joining in the faith of our fathers, we proclaim the Kingdom of Jesus until His return. Let us consider the promise of His return.
Revelation 21 gives us a beautiful and poetic vision of what it will be like when Jesus returns. There will be no more pain and sorrow. All things will be made new, and God will dwell with His people forever. We shall be His people, and He shall be our God. Reflect on your own context. Where do you notice brokenness, pain, and sorrow? For what areas of your life and the lives of those around you are you trusting God to make new and whole again? In prayer, declare your trust in God as the One who will make broken and hopeless things new and beautiful again.
About this Plan
ShofarBand is a South African worship and songwriting collective. In January 2024, we released our live album, Welcome Home. This plan is based on those songs, telling the story of a God who is both transcendent and intimate, both high above and near to us. May this plan and these songs enlarge our view of the love and holiness of God, creating space for encounters with His Holy Spirit.
