A Different Gospel
I find it difficult to explain the Gospel. My guess is you do as well. Pause to think about how to answer a simple question: what is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
Where do you begin? Where do you end? Going for a ‘25 words or less’ answer might be great for a text or online comment, but can it do justice to the scope and majesty of the Good News of Jesus? Bringing more details might not do justice either. For every Old Testament prophecy or theological subject you include, there’s probably another one you left out. Or downplayed.
Rejoice! While it’s tough to distil the Gospel from God’s Word, the first chapter of the apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians makes it clear that ‘a different Gospel’ does not exist. Put that another way: there is no Gospel of Christ except the one preached by Jesus’ inspired followers, captured within the precious pages that Galatians is part of.
If you are worried about what Gospel you’ve been ‘called to live in’, check it against the good book’s cohesive, consistent testimony of the Good News.
