Real Hope: Trust

DAY 6 OF 7

Everlasting Rock

Have you ever had someone say to you: ‘Trust me’, and then they let you down because they didn’t follow through on their promise? You think twice about relying on them again, don’t you? Sometimes life doesn’t work out the way we want it to. It’s hard having to rely on other people. If you could do it yourself, you would.

The fact is that none of us are perfect. As the apostle Paul tells us, we all fall short of the glory of God. Here our trust is not in human actions or promises, but in who and what God is. The verse from Isaiah tells us that God is ‘an everlasting rock’. Whatever happens, this rock does not move, it does not crack, it does not weather away by the constant pounding of life’s waves. It is there, solid, steadfast, forever.

Knowing who God is in our hearts should be firm. We put our trust in Him; not ourselves or others; for we know beyond any doubt, that He is the everlasting rock. We know that He is the firm foundation upon which we are to build – confident that when we do, we’ll weather any storm. We know we can trust in the everlasting rock of God; the shifting sands of human intention will never support us.

Lord, I thank you that I can trust in you in good times and bad, knowing that you are the everlasting rock upon which I have built my life. Amen.
