Real Hope: Trustنموونە
He Is Trustworthy
I have faith that a chair can hold me. But it’s not until I sit that I truly place my trust in it. My faith is based on previous experience. Have more chairs been faithful than not? Then most are worth my trust. The same can be said for people. Has that friend proved themselves reliable? Integrous? Trustworthy? Then they’re worth me putting my faith in them into action, and putting my trust in them.
So, what about God? What’s His track record like?
Did He…
- Rescue His people from Egyptian slavery and bless them with a new land; faithful to His promise to Abraham? Tick! (Exodus 14:13–14; Genesis 12:1–3; Joshua 21:43–45)
- Create us intimately and lovingly, guiding us into relationship with Him as our creator? Tick! (Psalm 139)
- Show His concern for a wicked prophet by causing a donkey to speak in order to save him from his unhinged ways? Tick! (Numbers 22:21–41)
- Provide many prophets and leaders throughout all of history in order to point people back to Him and His faithlessness? Tick! (Most of the Bible.)
- Hand His people over to what they wanted (a King) despite it stemming from their desire to be just like every other nation, rather than set apart… AND did He then bless them (despite their unfaithfulness) with a godly King, from which the true King of Kings would come? Tick, tick, and tick! (1 Samuel 8:5; 1 Samuel 16:1–13; Matthew 1:1–17).
The list of God’s faithfulness is endless! Just like Levi did in the above verse, God is truly worth our trust and obedience. So, let’s put our trust in Him today and every day.
