It's Giving...Idol.

DAY 3 OF 10

DAY 3: MUSIC.

Music is powerful. It was created from the start to bring glory to God, because…. SURPRISE, He created it! There are probably a MILLION YouTube videos out there that can highlight the influence of music, especially today. Music can be used for our good, but it can also be used as a weapon against us, and it most certainly can be an idol.

As someone who listened to secular music most of my life, I wholeheartedly understand being inclined to try to find the good in it. Especially when you grew up listening to certain popular artists. But if I take your 5-star gourmet meal and drop it in the community dumpster first, then what’s the point of having it in the first place? Music is the same. What we take in through our ears (and eyes) affects us, whether we want to believe it or not.

Homework:

- Try listening to music that ONLY glorifies God for a week. If you don’t have any, Google some Christian artists or ask a friend (like *coughs* me).

- Each day, write down 1-3 words that describe how you feel after listening to songs about God.

- Then, after 7 (yes, seven) whole days, try going back to what you listened to before.

- Write down 1-3 words that describe how you feel after listening to what you listened to before.

Notice anything? If you’re unable to get through a day or maybe a week without listening to things that don’t glorify God, it might be an idol.

About this Plan

It's Giving...Idol.

Idolatry isn’t always “in your face.” It’s actually a very subtle thing, and we’re ALL guilty. In this 10-day plan, let's define idolatry, identify idols in our own lives, and get helpful tips on how to avoid "the drift" toward idolatry, known and unknown. This plan will inspire and reveal truth about ways we allow people, places, things, and even world ideologies to take God's role in our lives.
