DAY 4: WISDOM FROM GOD
Read: James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6; Proverbs 16:16; 1 Corinthians 1:30-31
While wisdom and knowledge are recurring themes throughout Scripture, they are similar but not the same. It is possible that one can be knowledgeable without being wise. Simply put, knowledgeis possessingthe facts, while wisdom is the ability to discern and to make the best decisions based on the knowledge we have. God not only desires for us to grow in knowledge and in understanding, but also in wisdom.
We must learn to grow in both knowledge and in wisdom. However, we are not walking blindfolded. Motivated by His love for us, God graciously provides for us everything we need to become wise: relationship with Him, His Word, and the Holy Spirit.
We know from Scripture that the beginning of wisdom originates in a right relationship with the Lord, acknowledging that all wisdom comes from Him. His Word gives us a roadmap for wise and righteous living and directs our path at all times. But most importantly, He has gifted us with a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to aid in our discernment and to guide us to apply what knowledge we gain correctly and in a way that nurtures wisdom.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today seeking wisdom for the path ahead. Help me to trust in You with all of my heart and to not lean on my own understanding. Help me to recognize Your voice and to follow Your lead. I pray that as I continue to seek You, I will grow in knowledge and in wisdom regarding the plan and purpose that You have for my life.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. What areas of your life might you be knowledgeable but not wise?
2. Describe a time when you relied on the wisdom of God through His Word while seeking guidance for a specific situation.
3. Which circumstance in your life do you need to ask God for wisdom?
4. Since God possesses all wisdom and can always discern the best decisions, how should that impact your prayer life?
