DAY 8: SURRENDER TO GOD’S WILL
Read: Romans 8:29; 1 John 2:6; Hebrews 10:10
Over the past seven days, we have focused on God and what His attributes reveal about His nature. As we learn about who God is, we should naturally be moved to a response – a desire to become more like Him. Those who know Jesus intimately have an awareness that not every option is equally beneficial – there is a wide path and a narrow path, one that leads to life and the other, to death. As a result, we often find ourselves asking the question, “What is God’s will for my life?” A seemingly complex question, at times, can be answered by a simple reframing of the question. Rather than asking God what we should do, we must begin asking the question, who should we be? The answer: we should be more like Jesus.
God’s will for our lives is that we would ultimately be conformed to the image of Christ, walking the way that He walked. As we strive to reflect the attributes of Jesus, we inherently journey through the process of sanctification. We begin looking less like the world and more like Jesus, being set apart for God’s special purpose.
Over the next week, we will shine light on the narrow path. We will surrender to God’s will for our lives by allowing Him to reveal areas of our lives that may need to be refined, or even transformed, so that we may look more like Him.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that You would shape my heart to look more like Yours. Help me to always pursue the narrow path and guide my steps as I continue to walk out the plans and the purpose that You have for me.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. Describe a time in your life when you chose the wide path. When did you choose the narrow path?
2. What practical step can you take today to reflect one of the attributes of Christ (love, holiness, trustworthiness, faithfulness, grace, mercy, etc.)?
3. What does sanctification look like in your life?
