Fresh Start

DAY 8 OF 15

The Israelites had disobeyed God, so God removed His hand of protection and let them be harassed by the Midianites. The Midianites destroyed all of the Israelites’ crops and murdered all of their livestock. The Israelites were going to starve, so they cried out to God for help. God heard and answered. He sent an angel to a man named Gideon who was supposed to deliver Israel. But there was a problem: Gideon was afraid and hiding in a winepress. Even though Gideon was hiding, God saw him as he was: a mighty warrior (Judges 6:12). Gideon’s fears were robbing him of being who he was. One of the things that entangle us and rob us of being who God sees us to be are our fears. We get afraid when what we’re facing is bigger than we are. And it’s true—life is often bigger than we are. But it is never bigger than God.

Our fears will shrink in perspective when we remember, believe, and rest in how big our God is. So, when your heart needs a reminder of God’s bigness, when you’re cowering in fear because life is big, you need your perspective to be shaken back to accuracy. One of the best ways to do that is to worship. To sing songs about who God is until your heart remembers. So, when you’re scared, sing. Sing about God’s goodness. Soon you will find yourself inside the strength of the Mighty One, as you have been all along. And together you can face life’s big storms.

About this Plan

Fresh Start

No matter how we feel about a new year, it can offer a fresh start. Maybe God has something for you in this season. Maybe the Holy Spirit might be pointing something out for you. We all want to live for what truly matters, and maybe God can use this year’s fresh start to help us point our lives more in that direction.
