Fear is the emotion most likely to get in the way of our success. We all have plenty of fears—both rational and irrational. The Bible mentions fear more than three hundred times, so it’s been a common human issue since the beginning.
There are plenty of rational fears—like getting a serious illness or something bad happening to our children or relatives. We can do our best to live healthy lives and keep our kids safe, but we can’t control everything. So we do our best not to worry and to be thankful for each day we have.
Irrational fears paralyze us and keep us from pursuing our bold vision. Some of us are afraid of doing certain things that seem too risky—like skydiving, scuba diving, and rock climbing. I’ve been zip-lining a couple of times, but I’ve never said, “I feel like zip-lining today.” Ever since the movie Jaws, the idea of swimming in the ocean has been out of the question for me. There’s no need for you to convince me why those are irrational fears because they haven’t gotten in the way of any of my daily activities yet. I can live with them. ...
God says over and over again in Scripture, Do not be afraid. I am with you. Just trust Me. I will never let you down, I will always be with you. That’s quite an insurance policy. We can understand the concept and say we believe it, but it’s quite a different story for our hearts to truly embrace it. That’s why reading something every day to remind us of these promises is helpful—the Scriptures or a favorite devotional book. It’s a daily practice we need, like charging our phones.
Over time, these words will pop into our heads when we need them the most: God is with us. He’s got this. He gave us this opportunity for a reason because He knows how much we care (and He cares) about our bold visions. Do not be afraid. As you pursue your bold vision, opportunities will come up that could change everything for your cause, even though they may terrify you. Don’t let fear get in your way. Step right over it and see what happens. Saying no is not an option.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to always be with me. Please help me rest in that truth whenever I face challenges while pursuing my vision. Amen.
