The Promise of Christmas

DAY 12 OF 20

It’s easy to get caught up in the things we don’t have during the holiday season. The people we don’t have, the gifts we don’t receive, the expectations that don’t get met. With that perspective, it’s easy to lose sight of the good we have at Christmas: the birth of Jesus.

This verse in John is a great reminder of why that’s such a big deal for us! Jesus’ birth didn’t just bring peace and joy to Earth; it paved the way for the rescue we desperately needed. Jesus ultimately gave up His life for us. His death on the cross (something we remember at Easter) was the ultimate act of love. As this puts it, there’s no greater act of love than that! And it’s an act of love that began at Christmas with the birth of Jesus and His entrance into the world. As you think about what Christmas means to you this year, don’t forget to focus on the love of God that this season demonstrates. That is something you do have this Christmas and beyond!

This week, talk with a trusted friend, family member, or small group member about how you can remember God’s great love for you this Christmas.

About this Plan

The Promise of Christmas

The birth of Jesus isn’t just a great story; it’s a real event that shows us not just how God loves us but how God’s people (just like us) had to learn to trust in the face of incredibly difficult and, at times, unbelievable circumstances. We’ll be reminded of the humanity in the story and the faith it takes to believe in the promise of Christmas!
