DAY 4 OF 7

The Way God Sees

Because I can’t see, I’m fascinated by the power of sight. Eyes can take in the beauty of a sunset and share an unspoken moment with someone across the room. By sight, we also judge what we think someone has going for them or if they'd be a worthy friend.

I’m thankful God has never seen people the way we do – His love leads Him to look beneath the surface, imagining so much more for us than we could ever dream for ourselves. In the Old Testament, God used the weak and undesirable to accomplish His purposes. Moses, the 80-year-old shepherd who stuttered, was the one God chose to lead His people out of slavery and into hope. David, a young shepherd from an unimportant family, was the “man after God’s own heart,” who continually redirected God’s prodigal people back to Him. During His life, Jesus pursued criminals as well as hipsters. He befriended sketchy tax collectors, prostitutes, and the elite Pharisees.

What freeing news for us! We don’t “fix” ourselves to come to Christ. His grace has covered our brokenness and sin, and His heart knows our true identity and destiny. Our hearts can rest in His love and trust His vision for our lives. As we fix our eyes on Him day after day, we find our worth and value in who He says we are. We also come to view others differently. As C. S. Lewis said, “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal…it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit--immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”

Have you ever asked God to reveal to you – through His Word and through prayer--how He sees and loves you and those around you? As you receive His answers, let them take root and change the way you see!
