“Christ Our King” – We Are Messengers’ Darren Mulligan
When I think of a king, I think of someone who is aloof and far off. I think of someone whose primary concern is to remain in power. They appear to have little in common with the average person. I cannot imagine an earthly king or queen would want anything to do with someone like me. Jesus is not that kind of king.
“You came here for the outsider
You came here for the least of these
You came here for our broken hearts
and lifted us off our knees”
Jesus left His heavenly throne and all of the splendor of heaven to come to us. He cast off all of the grandeur of heaven and put on humanity so that He could be with His people and rescue us from our sin.
“You came here to tear down our hate
to bear the burdens that we could not take
You came here to restore our lives
You are the treasure that we could not buy”
Christ did come as a conquering king. He conquered hell, sin and death, but He did so out of love for the very people who had abandoned and turned their backs on Him.
Paul sums this up perfectly when he tells us in Romans 5:7-8 that, “It is rare indeed for anyone to die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Christ our King is no ordinary King. So fierce was His love for us that He poured out His life for us while we were enemies of God. His love is like nothing we can fathom.
