Observe how Christ loves us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us.

Verses like this one tend to leap off the page when we read the Bible. How could they not? This kind of love is the real deal, and it’s a far cry from the romantic “Hollywood” love we’re used to. This love is all about giving, not getting. This love is more concerned about others, instead of its own selfish agendas. A love that holds nothing back. And most importantly – a love that can’t be held back! The world needs more of this love. It’s desperate for it.
Aside from being an amazingly beautiful verse that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside – because knowing the Creator of the universe loves you will do that to you – it also serves as a reminder of how we should be treating one another. Because it can’t always be “me, me, me.” Jesus is always about other people. And we should be too.
And not just with the people we already love, because loving them is relatively easy. We need to show love to the people who don’t always deserve it, or the people we don’t particularly want to love. Ephesians 5 tells us to “watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love”.
So today, we challenge you to read this verse, know how loved you are, and pay it forward. Show someone else how loved they are. Like it says in Matthew 5:16 (MSG), “You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. God is not a secret to be kept… Shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous father in heaven”.
Pass along the warm fuzzies. Give other people a glimpse of God’s extravagant love. Life’s too short for half-hearted, worldly, cautious love. GO BIG.
