Faith Works
As I drove to the stadium to deliver the chapel sermon for the Houston Texans, I couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous. I had spoken there many times before, but this felt different. This group of professional athletes was likely used to hearing motivational speeches and stories about perseverance on the field. I didn’t know how they would receive my message or if it would resonate with them.
As I prayed along the way, I began to doubt whether my devotional was strong enough. I felt my usual go-to football illustrations wouldn’t work, and I was unsure if I could connect meaningfully with the players.
But as I stood before the team, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I trusted that God would guide my words and that they would be impactful for those listening. And as I spoke, I could feel the players’ attention and engagement.
Overall, this experience taught me that walking by faith truly works, no matter what stage of life you’re in. Even when we doubt ourselves, trusting in God can lead to success and meaningful connections with others. That night’s experience with the Houston Texans reinforced my belief that faith truly works. It’s like the story of Abraham and Sarah, who were old and yet still had faith that they would have a child, Isaac. Their faith worked, just as ours can.
We’re never too old to exercise faith. If we’re believers in Christ and follow His direction for our lives, we will continually walk in faith. There will always be moments where that faith will be tested, but we need to trust in God.
What do you believe about the role of faith in your life? Have you ever experienced a situation you couldn’t fully understand or control? How did your faith guide you through that experience? I challenge you to hold on to your faith and trust it will work for you. Never give up on it, even facing challenges or uncertainty. When we put our faith in God, amazing things can happen. What steps can you take today to strengthen your faith and trust in God’s plan for your life?

About this Plan
Even the best must be saved by belief. Faith humbles. Faith receives salvation as a gift, not a wage. We need to place our faith in Christ, and then walk, in obedience, in His works. Ours is a simple faith. In this devotional plan, Pastor Matte shares truths from Paul’s letter to the Romans about how to live out our Christian faith.
