Mothers of the Bible

DAY 2 OF 4

The Mother of Nations - Sarah

Abraham is often known as the Father of the Nation of Israel. God promised Abraham that he would have as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. But the mother of the Nations, Sarah, has an interesting story, too. When God told Abraham that he would have a son, Abraham and Sarah were extremely old—way too old to have children. Sarah’s response? Laughter. She laughed because she knew it was impossible. Still, she waited to see what God would do.

Sarah was 90 years old when she finally had a son, and she named him Isaac (which means laughter!). We don’t have details about all those years Sarah waited, but we can assume the days were full of heartache, questions, and doubt. Waiting for God to do something in our lives can feel debilitating. Often, we start to lose hope and even doubt God’s goodness. But God always keeps his promises. Even when we doubt him or laugh at his plans, he is still faithful.

Do you laugh when you think about God’s promises and plan for you, or do you respond with faith? How do you need to start trusting God today while you wait on him?
