Teatime Discipleship: Celebrating Christ Through Communityنموونە
I can’t even begin to count how many close friends I have made over a simple meal or a cup of tea (or coffee, if you must!). There is something about stealing away from the “busy” of life and sipping something wonderful, smooth, and warm while sitting in an environment and connecting with friends, new or old.
Over the years, I have learned the gift of teatime discipleship—speaking about eternal truths and life-changing messages of God’s love and design, shaping the foundations of thought, and sharing in friendship over hot beverages and delightful treats. By simply opening my door to seeming strangers and establishing an environment of welcome, I saw firsthand how women need women, friends with whom to share life, companions through all seasons, and spiritual mentors to keep their faith alive.
Love One Another
The apostle Peter encouraged the early church as they faced persecution. One intent of his letter was to share that their hardships would lead to a deeper, more genuine faith. Amidst the injustice they were facing, Paul wanted them to know that to grow in faith they were to care for one another rather than hide in isolation and despair. He says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling,” (1 Peter 4:8-9).
Notice the phrase “above all.” Peter knows that our vibrancy in Christ is flavored primarily by the love we give to and receive from one another.
Serve One Another
Peter continues his encouragement in 4:10-11: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
God Provides What We Need To Do His Work
God’s strength and provision allow us to do what seems impossible in times of injustice and weakness! In this Bible plan we will explore 1) what it means to create space for others, 2) what it means to be a true friend by discovering how God can transform our hearts, habits, and hospitality, 3) how to share the message of Jesus that changes us from the inside out, and 4) what it means to be home to other women—to invite one another into fellowship and joy.
I desire for you to feel seen and to help you understand that God is present. He cares about the burdens that you carry and desires to help you find freedom and wholeness in community with other women.
