Finding the Light in Suicideنموونە
DAY 6
CHAIN REACTION
I would like to welcome you back. I am so glad you have made it this far! It’s been a difficult topic, and you have done a great job when emotions and challenging thoughts surface as we discuss the depths of darkness suicide can hold on our life.
This week we have looked into the life of one of God’s greatest prophets, Elijah. Elijah worked for God and was so faithful. He won victory against Baal worship and, in turn, was running for his life. We saw God show up in strength for Elijah, then in a whisper to guide him on the right path.
Today we are finishing this story with 1 King 19:19-20:
19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said, “and then I will come with you.” “Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?”
At this point, we are not too sure of Elijah’s excitement to continue in his purpose. It does not seem he is too enthusiastic. However, we do know he pushed forward and did anoint Elisha.
Opposite Elijah’s emotions, Elisha was eager to follow the great prophet.
Even if Elijah was not as fervent as his prophetic successor, for him to have returned to his purpose, God would have final victory over Baal worship through a chain reaction. God has provided strength and guidance for Elijah as he helps fulfill God’s plan.
You see, Elijah is to pave the way; he is a step in the process. This step is a new political and religious order that will succeed the old, and God’s story will be fulfilled.
I know it can be hard to find purpose in life when the darkness falls. I am glad you came with me on our journey this week. God is whispering to you, just as he did to Elijah. You have a purpose.
I pray, in your pain, God has strengthened you this week. God says in Isaiah 41:10:
10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you: I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
I also pray God has whispered purpose into your life. He says:
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
I’ll see you tomorrow for our last day this week as we discuss what kind of purpose and plans God may have for our future.
