Disciple-Maker's Vision

DAY 23 OF 40

Jesus draws out a story for us today that's labeled as the Parable of the Stewards. Three different people with who he invests at three different levels. Based on his ROI Jesus sells all assets in one person and purchases more of another’s. Is Jesus really describing his deeply personal relationship with people in cold financial terms as though he were a full-on floor trader? Yes. Even a God of unconditional agape love manages how his investment portfolio is performing.

What does this mean for you? A lot. Not everything. God has already invested in you. It may be more or less than the next person. You are not measured against the next person though. You are only measured by what you do with God's investment in you. Your talent resources, people resources, financial resources, personality resources, time and place resources - all are a gift invested by God in you. Burying those gifts loses them. Reinvesting them as a steward is what gives you even more than what you started with to enjoy with him and share with others.

It's going to take a bit to incorporate a steward's vision into your Disciple-Maker's vision, but it's a good day to start. Start today with "counting your blessings." Not just the good stuff that's happened to you, the good stuff that God has invested in you. There is stuff Jesus has invited you to enjoy, to share, and to bring him a Disciple-Maker's ROI over time.

About this Plan

Disciple-Maker's Vision

A Disciple-Maker life takes Disciple-Maker Vision. My growth, my Jesus, my discipleship has its place center stage, but it's not the only thing on the stage. No theater runs with a cast of individuals buried in their own script, waiting for their own queues. It takes cast members that see everyone else's part, see the props and pieces to hold, see the overall plot and the scenes that build it, see the audience whom all this is for, and see the director from whom all things come. It's the same with Jesus in the great dramatic unfolding of his kingdom come and his gospel for all. You probably started with fixating on your part, which is normal and expected. The time comes when you see the rest. Every Disciple is to become a Disciple-Maker. These next forty days are for shifting your Vision to that of a Disciple-Maker. More than nuggets of wisdom, this devotional aims to set you up with an open-ended dialog with Jesus. Be ready to sit in scripture and prayer long enough for something new to be formed with him.
