Disciple-Maker's Vision

DAY 25 OF 40

You live in an increasingly agitated and angry partisan world. Authority is questioned. Respect is "earned." Jesus somehow pulls us onto a different page where all parents, employers, and governmental figures are given freely the same kind of respect we would directly give him. You can't picture that at first glance. No one can. Especially when picturing the kinds of parents, employers, and government leaders that have been anything but respectful.

Either way, you need a Disciple-Maker's vision for how your response to any authority reflects your love for God's authority. Respect isn't about agreement. Respect isn't about blind followership. Respect is definitely not about dismissing abuse. As you enter Peter's words of wisdom in today's reading, be mindful that any authority he urges respect for was no more worthy of respect than all the "bad leaders" that may bother you today. The secularized leadership of Rome and its emperor in that day matches the worst government you can notice in this today. The hypocrisy of the religious leaders in that day holds its own to any politician and pius phony in this day. Still, respect is the mode and vision of a Disciple-Maker.

As you enter your prayer space with Jesus, posture yourself for his correction on how to emerge with a new respect for every authority he has placed over you. Catch his vision for just how freely all Disciple-Makers give their respect.

About this Plan

Disciple-Maker's Vision

A Disciple-Maker life takes Disciple-Maker Vision. My growth, my Jesus, my discipleship has its place center stage, but it's not the only thing on the stage. No theater runs with a cast of individuals buried in their own script, waiting for their own queues. It takes cast members that see everyone else's part, see the props and pieces to hold, see the overall plot and the scenes that build it, see the audience whom all this is for, and see the director from whom all things come. It's the same with Jesus in the great dramatic unfolding of his kingdom come and his gospel for all. You probably started with fixating on your part, which is normal and expected. The time comes when you see the rest. Every Disciple is to become a Disciple-Maker. These next forty days are for shifting your Vision to that of a Disciple-Maker. More than nuggets of wisdom, this devotional aims to set you up with an open-ended dialog with Jesus. Be ready to sit in scripture and prayer long enough for something new to be formed with him.
