Why do you think it is that Jesus turns the individualistic call to “Come follow me,” into the pluralistic call of becoming the 12, or sending the 72, or gathering the 120 in the Upper Room? Or come to think of it, why does he always pair people up before sending them out? Or why does God make sure that early church planters like Paul, Barnabas, Mark, and Timothy have each other? Most books in the Bible library are written to cities and communities, and almost never to individuals. Why is Jesus’ Disciple-Maker vision to make churches instead of just disciples? Why?

You were never meant to go it alone in the things of Jesus. Wherever Jesus is taking you next as a Disciple-Maker, you’ll be going with other Disciple-Makers; his Church.

Who is it going to be for you? Take notice of what community Jesus would make of you. Who is your 12 that Jesus is pulling into learning with and experiencing his presence? Who is your 2 that Jesus is pairing you with on a shared mission? Who are you 72, 120, or more that you identify with, and worship with, in the local city you call home? The exact numbers are not important, but the formation of you as a Disciple-Maker in community is. Jesus has a church for you to worship with, a group for you to grow with, and a pair for you to be sent with. It's worth praying that out this week until he’s shown what those layers of community are to you: 1) church, 2) group, 3) pair.
