Expecting the One With Many Namesنموونە
WE CAN GO DIRECT TO THE HIGH PRIEST, JESUS!
'Potentate' isn’t a prevalent word used today, but the name is again perfect to describe Jesus, for it means one who is sovereign, a ruler, and possesses excellent power!
“Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only ‘Potentate,’ the King of kings, and Lord of lords;” 1 Timothy 6:15
In Old Testament times, people only accessed God through the high 'Priest.' The priest took the prayers of the people into the Holy of Holies. When Jesus died on the cross, HE became our High Priest. How beautiful to know that we can access Father God any time of day or night through Jesus, the High Priest!
“For we have not a high ‘priest’ which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15
'Prince of Peace' is another lovely name of Jesus! One day when He rules, peace will prevail for the righteous, and He will be the perfect prince that carries out that peace!
”For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, ‘Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Jesus was indeed a prophet,' for a prophet teaches and proclaims the inspired will of God!
“For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a ‘prophet’ like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.” Acts 3:22
“This is the ‘prophet Jesus,’ from Nazareth in Galilee.” Matthew 21:11
LET US PAUSE:
No longer do we have to confess to a man, but we now have direct access to Father God through the intercessor Jesus, our High Priest. We are also called to pray for people, which means we are interceding to the High Priest on their behalf. In today’s action, think of someone who can use your prayers and bring their needs before the Lord!
About this Plan
Jesus was born over 2000 years ago! His Mother, Mary, was expecting the birth of her son Incarnate! Today, we too are 'expecting' Jesus, not as a baby, but as the One honored with so many names. In this 27-day Advent Devotional, let us go more profound as we discover Jesus through His many names that reveal His character! He is our soon-coming King!
