Expecting the One With Many Namesنموونە
THERE IS NO ONE LIKE OUR JESUS!
Although Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Joseph and Mary traveled there for the census from Nazareth. Jesus was raised in Nazareth until His public ministry, so the name ‘Nazarene’ is very appropriate.
“And he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a ‘Nazarene.” Matthew 2:23
We know that ‘Omega’ is the Greek word for the End, the last, the ultimate, and as another name for Jesus in this devotional on names. This verse assures us that Jesus was in the beginning, that He is to this day, and that He is yet to come again!!
“I am the Alpha and the ‘Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
Jesus was named the ‘Passover Lamb’ because He became the final sacrifice! Remember the account of the blood over the doorpost to spare the Israelites from the deadly plague? So, it is here that the Passover Lamb of Christ’s Blood was sacrificed to spare believers from judgment. Because of this sacred sacrifice, we are to live as pure as possible each day.
“Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. ‘For Christ, our Passover lamb’, has been sacrificed.” 1 Corinthians 5:7
I love that one of Jesus’ names is that of a 'Physician!' He used the sick as an analogy of why He came to save the sinner but was well-known for His many physical healings during His ministry!
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a ‘physician’, but those who are sick.” Matthew 9:12
