Satan’s Lies; God’s Truth: Lie #6--Happiness Comes From Getting What You Want
It’s relatively easy for us to see the sin of materialism in other people. When we as parents watch our kids opening birthday presents, sometimes we wince to see how quickly they descend into gloating, bragging, and fighting over the toys. But big people are not immune. Satan lies to us constantly, telling us that happiness comes from getting what we want, from acquiring things, from accomplishing our agendas.
Here’s the truth: true happiness and satisfaction come from trusting in God, serving Him, and serving people. The Bible says in Philippians 3:8, “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.”
Yes, you read it right-lost all things. Sometimes God loves you so much that He takes things away from you. He works it both ways, blessing us sometimes by giving us things and other times by subtracting.
Ask yourself today: “What is my most valuable possession?” If you gave any answer other than “my relationship with Jesus,” you have some problems. You’ve been listening to Satan again.
