Year of the Bible: Part Ten of Twelveنموونە
Fight the Good Fight of Faith in Light of Jesus's Return
Paul is well known for speaking his mind and saying what needed to be said! Timothy was more timid and probably looked shy next to Paul. Yet, Paul wrote some of his last letters to Timothy, encouraging him to continue the ministry Paul had started. Timothy had collaborated with Paul on several of his letters to the churches and frequently traveled with him. Paul saw that God had given Timothy a gift to lead and called it out, guiding Timothy in implementing his gifts and calling.
Paul gave Timothy many tips on how to be a good minister. In context, Paul had just told Timothy to run away from the pursuit of wealth. In the same way, we believers have to leave sin and move toward growth in our spiritual lives. Timothy was already born again, but Paul encouraged him to experience more of knowing God by knowing Jesus. Then, Paul instructed Timothy to share what God revealed to him with those he ministers to.
Paul reminded Timothy that there is no higher judge than God, and we answer to Him. So, Paul encourages Timothy to fight past timidity and move toward a boldness that God alone can give. The power of God would equip Timothy to carry on Paul's by ministering to the churches and sharing Jesus with those not yet converted. Paul wanted to keep Timothy from distractions and encouraged him to stay focused on what mattered most: Jesus, the salvation of the world.
Question: What things distract you from fulfilling your call and purpose?
Prayer: Father, please help me today to focus on You. Guide me into more truth that I have been blind to see. Help me to fulfill what You see in me, even if I am as timid as Timothy was. Please encourage me today to fight through temptation and distraction and grow closer to You in my faith. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
