God’s Vision, Your Unique Roleنموونە
Your submission to the Lord’s will and His ultimate purpose does not leave you in some kind of state of fatalistic paralysis. Not only does the Bible command you to intentionally pursue knowledge and wisdom (cf. the book of Proverbs, see 2:3–5 for instance), your present life can be the living will of God. When you please God in the present, you are doing the will of God.
As for your personal purpose, do whatever your hand finds to do with all your heart (Col. 3:23), in the name of Christ (Col. 3:17), to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31), and you will be living the acceptable life (Rom. 12:1–2; James 4:15).
Don’t go about trying to find some mysterious will of God for the future without living for the pleasure of God in the present. If you are not pleasing God today, a result of passion with your focus on mission, forget about finding God’s will for the future.
One’s unique purpose, then, is revealed as Scripture’s large purpose gets processed through personal history. Obedience is the key. As you live in obedience to what you know is true, you receive more light to show you that whatever good you have done was done through God. Jesus says, “whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God” (John 3:21).
Finding God’s unique role for us arises from ongoing spiritual sensitivity to the God who leads specifically as we yield to Him. Asking God for guidance and leadership provides grounds for our confidence in His purpose. If He has written the playbook and has sequenced your life, you might as well ask Him for leadership in living out His purpose. His calling and power are the means by which “every good purpose of [ours] and every act prompted by [our] faith” will be fulfilled (2 Thess. 1:11).
God’s ultimate purpose to bring people to Himself forever is clear. Will you resolve to live a life of obedience and to participate in His purpose, however He may lead?
