Rerouting

DAY 19 OF 25

Everyone loves a good story. Growing up, you probably had a favorite book, movie, or song with a main character you loved to root for. You may even have seen a bit of yourself in that character, imagining yourself going on fun adventures, or overcoming amazing odds. When we identify with a story, it means even more to us. It almost becomes a part of us. Thousands of years ago, stories were a huge part of a person’s identity. Elders would tell stories of the past to help guide young people in their futures. For the Israelites, these stories were filled with people who had put their faith and trust in God. And these stories not only worked to give a history of the people, but they also worked to remind them of who they were. They were the people of God. They were people who had been brought out of slavery and into freedom. They were the people who had been given promises that they knew God intended to keep. Hearing these stories and making them personal for every listener helped to pass on the faith. Think of your own story of faith. Who can you pass this down to? Is it a friend going through tough times, family members stuck in their own valleys, or do you even need to constantly remind yourself of your own story? Make an effort to share some of the faith in your life with someone who needs it this week.
