So [to humiliate them] Gideon said to Jether his firstborn, “Stand up, and kill them!” But the youth did not draw his sword, because he was afraid, for he was still [just] a boy. Judges 8:20 (AMP)
Jether was afraid because he was a youth. He was neither spiritually nor emotionally prepared for the responsibility his father was giving him. It seems Gideon had forgotten his own courage was not natural, and God had taken him through a journey of faith development to get him to his current mental and spiritual state.
Whatever we expect from our children must match what we have trained them to do. Whatever we expect from our children must match their emotional capacities. Unrealistic expectations often lead to frustration and unnecessary pressure.
Reflection: What are you expecting from your children these days? Are you supporting their capacity to meet your expectations?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for my children. I thank you for all you empower them to do. In the name of Jesus, I ask for the grace to support their development and bring them up in your ways. Open my eyes to the best ways to help my children grow spiritually and emotionally. Thank you for answering my prayer. Alleluia!
We hope you were blessed and encouraged.
