He Will Make All Things Right!

DAY 2 OF 11

This world is unfair, but is God unfair?

Psalm 58:1-2: “Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge people with equity? No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth.”

Have we been betrayed, scammed, stolen from, bullied, or abused? Of course we have, and we may even have done these things to others. All these sins have consequences, and the consequences often affect the innocent.

People may get away with things here and now – but God will make all things right. It is this in-between time, though, that confuses us; when we aren’t seeing justice and feel like evil is winning. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:19, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” So, we need to learn trust and patience – not arm waving or “shoot em!” God sees all things and has not forgotten us!

God hates sin and it hurts Him more than any of us because He is holy; completely without sin. His purity and justness are beyond our comprehension. He will mete out perfect judgment in His perfect timing. Our sins and the consequences of them draw us to Him, helping us realize our complete dependence on Him, and so that we realize the awfulness of our sin.

He never takes His eyes off us, even when we are experiencing the terrible consequences of our or another’s sin. In Psalm 46:1-3 God’s Word promises: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Isaiah 46:4 encourages us with, “Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

Still, we only see things from our limited viewpoint, and it seems like justice is too slow. In Revelation 6:10, martyrs who have been killed for their faith ‘called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”’

When we get impatient, let’s look again at who God is, and what He says about Himself in Jeremiah 9:24, “let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, declares the Lord”.

Reflection: Are you more encouraged already, knowing that God is always kind, just, and righteous? In Him are all the answers we need.
