The War on Wisdom نموونە

Nowadays there is a cult of “self”: self-help, self-empowerment, self-discovery, self-fulfillment, and self-ism. We are encouraged to embrace the “self” by making our own lived experience the standard by which we judge what we think are appropriate ways of living and responding to life’s circumstances. We are told to lean on our own understanding, on our own truth. Wisdom is boiled down to whatever works for you. But the Bible is antithetical to this.

True wisdom starts with fearing God, understanding who He is, what He has done, and responding appropriately. It is the recognition that we need to live according to His ways as revealed in His Word. We are to die to self so that we can live for Him.

The father wants the son to humbly admit and accept that he cannot, and should not, trust in his own ways or his own judgements about the world. Rather, he should depend on God’s way of looking at the world. Only then will our paths be made straight, our bodies be healed, and our innermost self be refreshed.

Spend time in prayer asking the Lord for forgiveness for your own self-dependence and ask Him to make you lean on Him.
