The War on Wisdom

DAY 10 OF 35

Financial stress can be a burden and the cause of great anxiety and conflict in our lives. The Bible has quite a few things to say about dealing with finances. It says nothing about getting rich quick or living the good life simply because you named, declared, or claimed it. But the Bible does teach about living in wisdom with your finances.

We are to be good stewards of the money that God has given us, and we can only do this if we are wise. The fool wastes money, mismanages money, overindulges with money, and can get into a lot of trouble with money.

In this passage of Proverbs, the father wants his son to make it right if he has made an unwise financial decision, and to do so with haste. It is wise to manage your money well and wise to see any financial trouble you might be in and take action. Being foolish with our money can get us into trouble, and fear can stop us from getting out of that trouble. Wisdom requires us to work hard for our money and to work hard in using our money well.

Do you manage your finances well? If it’s something that you struggle with, you need to make haste in getting a handle on it. A practical first step can be studying the wisdom of the Bible on finances and lining up your way of using money accordingly. A next step can be taking a course in managing finances or speaking to a counsellor. The goal is not to become rich, but to manage the resources that God gives you.
