The Big Questions About Jesus

DAY 6 OF 15

Was Jesus God?

There are plenty of people today who question who Jesus was. That’s nothing new. Back in his day, the most frequent question asked about Jesus was, “Who is this guy?”

Just as there are today, there were plenty of people who needed to be able to “put Jesus in a box,” that is, into a category they could understand. After all, that’s how we deal with every situation in our world.

People couldn’t say Jesus was just a normal guy because he wasn’t. Was he just a teacher? A wise man? A prophet? While he seemed to be all of these things, he also seemed to be so much more!

Today, many people are prepared to accept Jesus as a good man and a wise teacher, alongside other wise men of history, but the issue is that Jesus claimed to be God.

Here is a question for you to ponder: what if you can’t find a good reason why someone can’t be God, and what if their being God is the only explanation?

Think about what Jesus claimed about himself:

  • He claimed to be one with God and the only way to God.
  • He claimed all authority in heaven and earth had been given to him.
  • He claimed to be able to forgive all sin.
  • He claimed he would be killed, and he would rise again.
  • He claimed he would return in glory and judge the world.

These are things only God can do. You can claim those things either if they’re true or if you’re a lunatic.

The problem with Jesus is that his claims and his legacy of good matched his actions. You can’t say that about lunatics.

Here is the most important question of all: if Jesus was not a lunatic, what do you do with him? I know where I stand. Do you?
