You Are Called to be a Saint

DAY 9 OF 15

Saints exercise justice

“When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?” (1 Corinthians 6:1-2)

The apostle Paul rebuked the Corinthian church members because they had disputes with one another and did not solve these properly. Instead of solving their problems within the church, they took them before court — which sadly was not a guarantee for fair judgment, especially when the issues involved spiritual things.

In this context, Paul points to a remarkable fact that Jesus has also mentioned a few times: the saints will judge the world, and therefore they should be able to exercise justice between spiritual brothers in the first place!

We know that Jesus Christ will judge the world. But since believers are united with Him, they will also participate in this judgment. In Revelation 2:26-27, Jesus says: “The one who conquers and who keeps My will until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from My Father.” Wow. That is an awesome responsibility.

Let this truth inspire you to seek justice here and now whenever you have a dispute, especially with other believers!
