What is the true meaning of humility?

Being humble is not the same as having low self-esteem.

However, one day low self-esteem can grow into arrogance if we allow it to take root.This is like two sides of a coin: low self-esteem and pride are both rooted in the wrong focus of self.

Let us learn from King Uzziah who was famous for his success in strengthening the defense of his country. In the end, he spent his life as a leper who had to be shunned from the splendor of his palace. King Uzziah's downfall began with pride; it happened when he felt entitled to carry out the duties of a priest.

If pride is born of the belief in ourselves, then humility is born when we admit our inability to live without God. Humility can be measured by how much we surrender the control of our lives to God. We will learn to be humble when we acknowledge the Lord as a God who is fully sovereign over our lives and future. Humility can also be seen in the attitude of our hearts when we are criticized and reprimanded.

Without humility as our foundation, we will not be able to receive great trust from the Lord.

True success begins with humility, which is surrendering ourselves to God. God has to increase, and we have to decrease.
