“Confidence in Your Identity"
At some level we all struggle with fear. Let’s just be honest. It starts when we’re children and carries over into adulthood. For me, I have an anxiety disorder and find myself battling fear daily. It’s exhausting. The only place I can go for reprieve is Scripture.
So in this devotional, we will look at scriptures that have carried me through some tough times. I pray they will encourage and embolden you, too.
The Bible tells us that, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” This foundational verse gives me peace, boldness, and confidence in our great and good God.
We have the same power that raised Christ from the grave living inside us. Think about that! God has also given us the capacity to love and be loved. Do you know that you are loved by a holy God? Do you realize that you are a dear, cherished, and adopted son or daughter of the King? That’s your identity. Rest in it.
And God gives us a sound mind. This truth is really important to someone like me who suffers from anxiety and can sometimes listen to those negative thoughts that haunt me, especially at night. Scripture says, “His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
As pastor and author Derwin Gray once said, “Remember, fear is not from God; power is.” As we go through this two-week daily devotional, rest in the fact that God has given you His power, His love, and a sound mind. Be at peace resting in Christ, the Prince of Peace.
