Wake Up!

DAY 1 OF 6

IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP

It’s easy to get stuck, and I mean stuck. You may find yourself hitting that snooze button one too many times, feeling trapped in a routine, or lacking passion for what you are doing. The days can seem aimless, with absolutely no direction. This is exactly what the enemy wants! The enemy wants nothing more than to throw the veil over your eyes and keep you blinded to your God-given potential. When we are living our lives aligned with God’s vision, the enemy gets scared! And I don’t blame him.

In Matthew 26:36-41, Peter was unable to stay awake when Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Perhaps it was because Peter became too comfortable with the routine of Jesus going off to pray and spending time alone with His Father. Maybe Peter allowed the familiar to lull him to sleep, making him ill-equipped to understand the gravity of the situation. Although Jesus was about to willingly sacrifice His life on the cross, could it be that Peter was unable to stay awake for even one hour because he thought it was just an ordinary night? A little sleep never hurt anyone, right? Wrong!

When we become too familiar with the routines of day-to-day living, we are in danger of closing our eyes to divine moments, God’s sense of urgency, and opportunities to accomplish God-sized assignments. God wants for us to wake up, to see ourselves through His eyes. Now is not the time to snooze, but the time to rise up and be about God’s business.

Covid-19 threatened to shut down churches and keep people apart. The enemy was delighted to see God’s people separated, feeling isolated and alone. But this didn’t last! Strong voices in the church stepped out with open eyes and saw what this would do to people, and they decided this just couldn’t happen. With the veil lifted, the church found a way to connect people more than ever. Through small online groups and other creative ways, friends were made all over the world! This is the power of aligning yourself with God’s will and ignoring that snooze button!

As you read this devotional, I pray God begins to reveal the ways you are spiritually asleep, to lift you from your slumber, and encourage you to wake up! Waking up can be a scary thing, but God is here for you. We are on this journey together.
