A Confident Momنموونە
Called and Commissioned
When God called Joshua to step into Moses’s leadership shoes and lead the nation of Israel (the whole unbelieving and grumbling lot of them) into the promised land, I imagine Joshua asked the same question many of us ask as moms: How am I supposed to do this?
God had commissioned Joshua with a huge assignment that was more than he could handle. But God didn’t just leave Joshua there to figure it out on his own. God had prepared Joshua through decades of serving beside and learning from Moses. God had positioned Joshua to see the struggles and victories, the blessings and battles of a godly leader, as well as His favor and faithfulness to a person fully surrendered to God’s calling. God had promised Joshua He would be with him, and He would fulfill His plans and give them this land.
God told Joshua to be strong and courageous, and then He told him how, in Joshua 1:6-9.
Like Joshua’s, our assignment is to stay dependent on God’s presence and obedient to His directions. Our responsibility is to respond to God’s ability. His Word promises He is able to do immeasurably more than we can think of or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us and within our families (Ephesians 3:20).
God has called and commissioned you to be your children’s mom! You don’t have to figure it all out on your own; God is inviting you to serve beside Him and learn from Him. On those days when your God-sized assignment as a mom feels like the hardest holy thing that you will ever do, remember the same promises, power, and resources God gave Joshua are all available to you.
Lord, thank You for Your promise to be with me and to fulfill Your plans for my children and me. You are a good Father I can trust with all my heart. Help me stop relying on my understanding and lean on You instead, knowing that You can make my path straight. When I feel inadequate, help me claim Your strength in my weakness and Your triumph in my tears. Now to You who are able to do immeasurably more than all we can think of or imagine, according to Your power that is at work within us, to You be the glory. Amen.
